Why the price differs
- Lesson length, which runs from half an hour to a full hour or more.
- Whether the trainer comes to you, meets you at a park or uses their own space.
- Buying one lesson against a block of several.
- Written notes, videos or message support between lessons.
- The skill itself: a first sit is quicker to teach than a calm walk past other dogs.
- Distance across the ring road and the city: travel time can change the price.

Good questions
Before you begin.
How many private lessons will my dog need?
It depends on the dog and on what you want to teach. Many owners start with three or four lessons and practise in between, and a trainer can say more after seeing your dog.
Should the whole household come along?
Anyone who gives cues should see them taught the same way, so partners and older children can usually join in.
What should I ask before booking?
Ask how the trainer teaches, what happens if your dog gets overwhelmed, whether the plan comes in writing and what the cancellation terms are. Reward-based methods are a sensible thing to look for.
Can lessons take place near a canal?
Often, if the towpath is quiet. Ask the trainer how they manage water edges and cyclists.
